What started as a routine traffic stop late Friday night turned into a tense encounter after officers discovered that the passenger — the driver’s boyfriend — had an active warrant unrelated to the stop.
According to police, officers pulled over a silver sedan on Highway 214 after clocking it at nearly 20 mph over the limit. The driver, identified only as Emily, complied immediately and provided her license and registration.
As officers spoke with her, they also asked the passenger, Jordan, for identification, as is standard procedure during nighttime stops. A quick database check revealed that Jordan had an outstanding warrant for failing to appear in court on a previous misdemeanor charge.
Body-camera footage shows the moment officers informed the pair. Emily appeared shocked, insisting they were “just heading home from dinner” and that her boyfriend had been planning to resolve the issue. Jordan remained calm, saying, “I knew this would catch up with me eventually.”
The situation escalated emotionally when officers asked Jordan to step out of the vehicle. Emily grew upset, arguing that the stop had “nothing to do with him.” Officers reassured her that she wasn’t in trouble and that the arrest was purely related to the warrant, not the traffic offense or the couple’s race.
Jordan was taken into custody without resisting. Emily was issued a speeding citation and allowed to drive home.
A police spokesperson later emphasized that the incident was “not a targeted stop,” adding that warrants require officers to act regardless of circumstances.
Jordan’s family said he intends to address the outstanding case and resolve the warrant quickly. Emily, shaken by the event, told reporters she wished the night had “just ended with a ticket.”
