The quiet routine of St. Alder Hospital was shattered this week after a patient’s missing Rolex led to an unexpected discovery — and the suspension of longtime staff nurse Jessica Hale.
According to hospital administrators, the incident began when a recovering patient reported that his watch, a gold Rolex Submariner, had disappeared from his bedside drawer shortly after a shift change. Security reviewed hallway and storage-area footage, eventually noticing behavior they described as “irregular.”
When questioned by hospital security, Jessica allegedly attempted to leave the building with a jacket draped over her arm. The watch was later found wrapped inside the lining.
Hospital officials quickly placed her on administrative leave pending investigation. Colleagues expressed shock, describing Jessica as calm, reliable, and composed — the last person they expected to see involved in a theft.
The hospital emphasized that the case involves one individual and does not reflect the behavior of its staff as a whole. Local authorities are now reviewing the situation, and the patient has since had his property returned safely.
While the investigation continues, the incident has sparked discussions about improved security, stricter personal-item protocols, and support systems for healthcare workers under pressure.
