For years, Robert De Niro has been one of the most outspoken critics of Donald Trump. Known for his blunt delivery and unwillingness to soften his views, the Oscar-winning actor once again made headlines after delivering an emotional and deeply critical assessment of the current president.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Appearing on The Best People With Nicole Wallace, De Niro did not temper his language. Instead, he described what he sees as a nation in crisis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe story is our country, and Trump is destroying it, and who knows what his reasons are, but it\u2019s sick, it\u2019s f*<\/strong> up,\u201d the 82-year-old actor said during the conversation. He added emphatically, \u201cWe have to save the country.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

De Niro has never shied away from sharp rhetoric when discussing Trump. In the past, he has used terms such as \u201cbuffoon,\u201d \u201cidiot,\u201d \u201cmonster,\u201d and \u201cvicious dictator\u201d to describe the president. In this latest interview, he went further, characterizing Trump as \u201can enemy of this country.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cLet\u2019s not kid ourselves. It\u2019s that simple,\u201d De Niro said. \u201cEverybody has to stick together to get them out and get back on track.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Throughout the discussion, the actor stressed unity as the only viable path forward. He warned that even if Trump were no longer in office for health or other reasons, the broader political movement surrounding him would remain influential.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThat\u2019s the only way. There\u2019s no magic. There\u2019s no nothing \u2013 people are not going to go away, even if Trump dies for some reason by having an illness or something,\u201d De Niro said. \u201cParts of that movement are still there, and that\u2019s the scary part. It has to be neutralized by the people.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The conversation took a more personal turn when host Nicole Wallace praised De Niro for consistently encouraging others and \u201clifting up everybody around you.\u201d The actor became visibly emotional.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYou have to \u2014 you have to lift people up,\u201d he responded, his voice breaking slightly. \u201cYou have to bring them together. Period. You can\u2019t divide people. You can\u2019t win that way.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reflecting on the broader political climate, the Taxi Driver<\/em> star expressed disbelief at what he sees unfolding in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cLook what we have, look who we have there, it\u2019s almost like a destiny to have this thing there, destroying\u2026 attempting to destroy this country and maybe not even understanding why,\u201d he said. \u201cSo it\u2019s up to us to protect the<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is far from the first time De Niro has voiced his opposition. In October 2025, he appeared in a video released by the activist organization Indivisible, where he drew a historical comparison between Trump and a monarch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
