Social media users have found an Obama-era CNN segment about U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) that they say shows how the agency was covered differently before Donald Trump became president.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On May 31, 2016, CNN aired a segment with reporter Pamela Brown embedded with a team of Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Chicago as they arrested undocumented criminals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cJust before the sun rises in the Windy City, Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents fan out across Chicago to arrest criminals in the U.S. illegally. CNN was granted exclusive access to witness some of those raids,\u201d Brown told viewers to kick off the segment, titled, \u201cA day with ICE in the \u2018Sanctuary City\u2019 of Chicago.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An ICE agent is then heard telling colleagues they had \u201cthree targets\u201d in areas that are a \u201clittle sketchy,\u201d as Brown noted that the operation began at 3 a.m. in order to catch the targets before they go to work. An ICE agent said that his adrenalin and blood pressure go up when \u201cyou\u2019re getting ready to do something like this.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CNN viewers were then told that ICE agents need to be as covert as possible when pulling off a raid before cameras caught them arresting the wrong man.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis may look organized, but in this moment, confusion. ICE agents mistakenly arrest the target\u2019s brother,\u201d Brown told viewers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the end, the correct target was arrested. Then, CNN showed graphics on the screen that said ICE agents don\u2019t agree with Cook County\u2019s sanctuary city laws that say local police can\u2019t work with federal immigration officials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cICE says the county ordinance creates a danger to the community by releasing undocumented criminals back onto the streets,\u201d CNN told viewers with an on-screen graphic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The segment went on to show ICE\u2019s second target, who had been sent back to the U.S. with a fake identity after being taken out of the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The segment concluded with the following on-screen graphic: \u201cOn this day ICE detained 6 for possible deportation. 2 of them were released because they didn\u2019t have criminal records.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

X account @mazemoore dug up and shared the video, noting that CNN didn\u2019t appear critical of ICE at the time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since 2016, CNN has changed owners and managers many times. However, conservatives say that the ten-year-old segment shows how media outlets covered ICE more favorably under Obama than under Trump, when ICE has mostly been criticized for how it enforces immigration laws.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After an ICE agent shot and killed Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis last week, the agency and its methods have come under even more scrutiny. The administration said that Good was trying to use her car as a weapon against the agent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A lot of people went to X to share their thoughts on the CNN segment that was found. Ross Douthat, a columnist for the New York Times, said that the different tone of the media was interesting, but it also showed that ICE agents dressed and acted differently at the time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
